SIDIM: This year's SIDIM Design Show in Montreal inspired a unique project called "Mobelier d'ici à demain" (Furniture for today and tomorrow). A small committee, headed by SIDIM director Ginnette Gadoury, shortlisted 10 contemporary Quebec furniture manufacturers and paired each with a Quebec designer. The brief allows the designer a free hand within the technical capabilities of the manufacturer.
The new design will remain the intellectual property of the designer, as the partnership does not involve fees or long-term obligations of any kind. Ms. Gadoury explained to VCR, "Both parties have a lot to gain, and neither party has a lot to lose."
A partial list of the 10 selected designers includes Pierre D'anjou, Diane Bisson, Charles Gadbout, Albert Leclerc, Claude Mauffette and Michel Morelli. Each partnership will produce a furniture prototype to be exhibited at SIDIM in 2005. VCR will keep readers informed as the project advances.
