The net sales of Québec-based contemporary domestic metal furniture producer, Amisco Industries, fell to $9.2 million during the quarter ending June 3, 2006, down 14.8 percent from $10.8 million in the second quarter of 2005. National Public Radio reports that inventor Steven Gass is petitioning the US Consumer Products Safety Commission to require table-saw manufacturers to use his SawStop (or equivalent) blade brake. When Gass's SawStop device detects the electrical capacitance of a human body part, a spring activates an aluminum brake pawl and stops the blade within 3–5 milliseconds.
